About Me

I studied for a PhD in Social Psychology, 1980, and after several years of working for the Texas Department of Public Welfare, and then several years working as an alcohol/drug dependency counselor, I re-specialized the PhD to Counseling Psychology, 1990.

I'm a pretty typical middle-class woman of "boomer" age. I've been married, divorced, and was mostly a single parent. I was fortunate to come of age in the time of women's lib and I know how scary and freeing it is to break from the psychological chains that hold us down. I have 5 grandchildren and have been in a committed relationship for about 17 years.

Early on  I believed I would learn how to live a good life from the study of psychology based on science and reason, but my search has expanded the purview of psychology to include meaning and spirituality.

Meaning cannot be put on from the outside by religion, anyone else's beliefs, or by science or achievement. Though it can be helpful to understand how your mind has been conditioned by the past, it is by letting go of the past and staying out of the future that you can find peace and happiness. It is your own journey to yourself and the only "fix" to your troubles.

Besides life itself, I have been informed by my studies of Carl Jung, Eckhart Tolle, Tao Te Ching, Jean Gebser, Carl Rogers, and James Bugental.

My Psych Blog has more wriitings of a psychological and philosophical nature that I hope you will find interesting.
